Good lenses, good technique. Always know where you want to focus, the eyes in pictures of people. Use the lens at it optimum DOF (sweet spot), usually around 5.6 with stardard consumer grade lenses but with L lenses it can be wide open. Some PP sharpening in PS may be necessary for all images to a greater or lesser degree, RAW always needs sharpening.

Thank you, I have L Glass and a 5d mark3 get great shots, they just never look this clear. I use focus/recompose - could that be the problem.

Diane, good equipment and a knowledge of post processing what that equipment can give you is half the battle. I use TOPAZ ADJUST as part of my post processing you may want to google it and get a free trial. Have you tried using your camera in JPEG ?? I shoot RAW and JPEG and find a lot of the stuff with my 1D MkIV the JPEGS are great.

Thank you for being so helpful - will check out Topaz adjust - never shot in JPEG with this camera.

Jpegs from the new breed of cameras can be really good but would suggest shooting both so you have a RAW also. I shoot a lot of images an sometimes never need to look at the RAW but I know its there if I need it. Topaz Adjust is really good if used sparingly and can make the picture POP.
