Yongnuo 50mm 1.4?

I didn't see a thread about it already, here is thelink.... Thoughts?

If these are as decent as the flashes I wouldn't mind having one as a back up!

Yea, this has surfaced a few times.

If it's a true clone of the Canon 50 F1.4, then who cares. It's already a cheap lens. And a clone of it would be worse. Zero interest here.

If Yongnuo wants to clone Sigma's ART series, or some better primes (135L, 24L, etc) then I'd be interested.

it would be funny if it ended up being better than the Canon version, at least their newest flashes have been really impressive.

Despite having 4 offerings in the 50mm class, canon still doesnt offer one that satisfies the discriminating photographer on a budget, the 1.8 is cheap, the 50L is costly and finicky. The 1.4 should fill the gap but has build issues and not much improvement over the 1.8. If YN can find some middle gound on the cheap good for them.

if it cost like the 1.8 and at least comes close to the canon 1.4 I think it would be worth it for someone not looking to spend a lot of coin.

if you don't want to spend lots of cash there's always legacy lenses! you can get 1.4 glass all day under $50.

of course it'll be MF but sometimes the EF 50s made me want to use MF anyways since they sucked lol

the only ones I never tried were the 50mm 1.0 and 1.2, but I tried the 50mm 1.8 1/2 and the 1.4, the first gen 1.8 was my favorite out of the bunch.

oh and the 2.5 macro, never used that one either. Forgot how many EF 50s Canon actually made.

I picked up the 2.5 at a garage sale cheaper than cheap. Its sharp but slow focusing and a bit loud. I dont use it much, nor my mk1 1.8 as I'm largely uninspired by the focal length but occasionally both get some use. Since I have so little invested in either of them I never think sbout selling them.

Same here, never been a fan of 50mms on full frame or crop, keen to try a 50mm on a medium format setup though.

Here's another vote for absolutely no interest. They can keep it.

I looked at these lenses on the Photokina.
The 50mm/1.4 seems from my small test there (without the original Canon EF 50/1.4 with me) that the AF is slow. Manual focus feels even more coarse than that of normal AF lenses.

The automatic iris is a thing that this lens has, but not one of the cheap manual lenses. For flash photography an automatic iris is sometimes very helpful (say this as manual lens lover).

Couldn't agree more. I was so happy when Samyang announced their AE version of their 35mm in Canon mount, I can't wait for them to update all their other lenses with that option for Canon.
