Hello!

I am trying to get the best possible pictures for sharing (we have a shutterfly share site for the team setup), and the parents of the kid in this shot I'm sharing asked if they could use it to make a 16x20 (aspect ratio needs fixed first...) I'm looking for some feedback on processing/framing of sports action shots (which is not exactly my forte)!

Would love to see any edits, or hear any feedback on the processing (and framing/original shot).

The raw file is here If anyone is interested in playing with the raw file/full resolution shot to share ideas: http://www.ephur.net …-to-jpg-no-processing.jpg (external link)

The larger collection of football & cheer pictures is hosted on flickr:

What I posted to the sharing site (but at a higher resolution, 1600 long side):

Here's the downsized JPG with no processing applied (lightroom export from the SOOC raw):

use it to make a 16x20

They'll probably love whatever you come up with. The only way to be sure would be to make a print. A couple of things:
Try to extract some detail from the blown area of his shoulders. Lower contrast in that area might help: If you use an Adjustment Layer to make the changes, it has a Layer Mask so that you can keep from lightening & blowing out some of the brighter areas: Photoshop CS6 Tutorial - Understanding Layer Masks (external link)
Adjustment Layers would also help to retain some detail in the darker areas of his pants.
I'm seeing a halo (sharpening?) around his legs & left arm.
Since he's looking to our left, I might move him just a tiny bit more to the right in the image.

Thanks for the wonderful suggestions on the processing!

I see the halos you are talking about now, I did some sharpening and will tweak the settings and masking there. I just started using photoshop and trying to absorb as much as I can. Have been using lightroom awhile but only because of the subscriptions added PS to the toolbox. Thanks for the link to that tutorial on the layer masking will tinker a bit.
