The sigma is crap, the Zeiss doesn't AF, the sony is slow and the canon is amazing.

You can also add, 'and the Canon is soft in the centre, even softer at the edges and suffers from focus shifting anywhere between f/1.4 and f/5.6'. And that focus shifting doesn't go away even if you MF, since the shift happens when the lens stops down to expose, not while focusing with the lens wide open.

My 50L was tack sharp even wide open and the new owner agrees as well.

Then either you haven't seen a truly sharp lens, or you're using a low-resolution sensor that doesn't require much sharpness, or you have very low standards for sharpness.

Comparing fine detail on landscapes shot at f/7.1 on the A7r between the Canon 1.2 and Sigma 1.4 (the new Art version) is like night and day.

Yeah that's it.

What camera, and any 100% crops (both edge and centre)? Even the crappiest zoom lens looks sharp at web size.

The 8-pointed sunstars also look awful, but that's a weakness of any 8-bladed aperture, which is why so many new lenses use nine-bladed apertures instead.

No wonder when they want to make a TC, they jump into Mark III !

LINK (external link)

Seems mark II of their 2x TC was just like a drunk turtle in terms of focusing but otherwise good in terms of IQ, if only you could focus...
Wonder if that is a contagious issue.

When you have people returning multiple lenses to try and cherry pick a decent one, and then you need a USB Dock to assist with focusing; that really describes amazing QC.

That's no reflection on the lens design, merely the quality control. A properly-tuned Sigma is probably the best lens in that focal length range.

And I've returned far more Canon lenses than Sigma lenses for QC issues. And Canon don't even have a dock for fine-tuning their lenses - some of them could have used it.

The 50L has many focus issues too, and those can't be fixed with a USB dock because there isn't one. I guess that makes it an even bigger piece of crap than the Sigma?
