I don't see these guys very often, only during migration, and getting a shot of them has always been a challenge. It's not that they are easily spooked, but they never seem to stop pecking.

Here in MT they are very common along gravel roads, in the road and on fences along them. I also see them a lot in shortgrass prairie especially if there are some rocky outcrops for them to perch on.

Just so; I think for the most part we have too much vegetation for them here; its not ideal habitat as opposed to where you are.
