The one flying is dji. But the other one is completely modded. only thing stock still is top and bottom plate, and flight controller. It can lift a full size gimbal and DSLR 5d3 if I wanted. but until I have the need to dump $6000 to do that, gopro it is.

What flight control / GPS system are you using & do you think it's 100% reliable IF you follow the proper procedure to teach it where it took off from?

Naza v2 and V1. There is so much easy operator error to have happen when doing drones. Countless issues. You really have to be on your game to do it.

I was looking at some of those online & wondered why they don't list a "Maximum safe lift" capability for them for calm air. It seems as if that would be something that people would want to know?

I would compare that question to asking whats the max I can get out of my car with mod drag racing it. So many variables. Battery type, battery size, engine size, prop size, payload weight, Its not dumb, its just to vague. It is as complex as photography...

For instance, this is just one engine makers set of engine choices just for drones....

I can understand that, but for a multicopter ready to fly out of the box, I don't see where it would be all that difficult to give us a clue?
Your link for motors lists thrust vs. prop type, so it's not as if there are no standards?

LOL!!

Drones already get enough bad press... they hardly need to advertize for more.

Besides that - like was stated the "lift" is variable. Can "this" quad copter "lift" two DSLR's back to back at the same time? Yes. (Of course lifting them to max height isn't what you SHOULD worry about really... what you might want to consider is how much of the battery capacity it takes to get the DSLR's down SAFELY from that height!)

Kind of like getting a shot of a heavy weight lifter - from in front directly under him. It isn't whether he "can" lift all that weight as opposed to how long he can "hold" all that weight! LOL!!

The "object" usually of these is not to simply "lift" the camera or video equipment, but to be able to "point" the camera and/or video at the intended subject and hold the frame to get a good shot. Sometimes that requires the multicopter to be flown some distance and held in hover - steady - and then return to it's point of launch and land safely. Otherwise it won't matter whether or not it "could" lift the camera/video equipment... because it will all be in a pile of smoldering junk... somewhere away from where ever you launched and lifted it! LOL!!

^ ^ Good points. But to me, it's like saying "I have a camera for sale. Takes good pictures. You don't need to know the details." ; )

Becareful how you use them . Where i live there is some that are abusing them until they get caught . Me personally have been seeing some flying at night around apartments in town and that is not legal . Soon as they are caught they will be looking at some charges filed . Hunters will shoot them down if they are flown over hunting areas while hunters are hunting . That has already happened several times in different states . It would be ashame to loose a big investment . Personally in the future i see them having to be licensed and restricted for use .

I'm sure this will paint me as an idiot, but why are they such a big problem?

Those who abuse them such as where i live and flying at night around apartments with cameras attached , are window peeping which is against the law here . People enjoying privacy in their own backyards cannot do that with a drone with camera flies over . Hunters get mad cause they scare off animals that they maybe hunting . I kow alot of people don't like hunting but it's a way of life to many cause it puts food on the table that otherwise they may not have and besides hunting has been done since the begining of time . How would you feel if you are say living on top floor a 5 story building and being intimate with your partner with the windows open and a drone pops up at your window with a video camera ?? What then ? And least but last since the Military has been using drones to kill terrorist overseas , people here in the states are afraid our government will try to do the same to us eventually . Actually they are already testing drones in the far south western USA .
