Looking for spare batteries. I have DigiPower which has worked fine, but what about the other brands? Wasabi, Halcyon, Opteka, MegaGear, etc. Any better or worse than the others? Recommendations?

Thanks!

I've had good luck with Wasabi LP-E6 batteries. I use two of them in my gripped 60D and 6D. No issues at all.

I too have had good luck with Wasabi batteries from Amazon. Seen good reviews on Sterlingtek as well, but haven't tried them.

I use SterlingTek batteries in both my T3i and my 6D. The LP-E8 STK batteries I have for the T3i have performed flawlessly for about a year and a half now. I just recently returned from a 5 day vacation to Disney World where the little T3i was given a major workout. I put two of the STK batteries in a 3rd party Zeikos grip and took well over 1500 shots. Those two batteries lasted the entire trip.

I also have their 6D specific LP-E6 STK batteries. Ive only had them about two weeks but I will say that they report charge status in camera just like the Canon battery does. They charge in eiher the Canon charger or the STK charger(which I bought just in case) and they last quite a long time so far.

Given my experience with Sterling Tek STK, I will be giving them my business from now on when it comes to 3rd party batteries.

Have both the Wasabi and STK in my grip. Both have worked flawless.

I have zero issues with my Hahnel LP-E6 clones. Due to the age of my Canon brand batteries (both are noted as being near end of life by my 7D) I don't have a fair feel for how they perform in terms of number of shots, but certainly well enough to justify them at half the cost of Canon-brand. They are only 1650mAh instead of 1800mAh.

Wasabi and Sterlingtek in my GoPro for about a year.
Sterlingtech in my Canons (BP-511s and LP-E6s) for many years.

No problems with either.

(I lied, the first batch of Sterlingtek LP-E6s was tight, but they replaced them asap with no questions - awesome customer service).

Here in the States and with the popularity of Amazon Wasabi and STK (what I've purchased) are likely the most popular. More important, IMO, is fresh stock and the ability to minimize exposure to counterfeit batteries. You can order direct from the importer to insure fresh batteries. The prices are similar to Amazon. Something right around $15 to $20 should get you a new fresh battery.

Wasabi batteries are to be found at http://www.bluenook.com …1?ie=UTF8&title=Batteries (external link)

or

the SterlingTek batteries at http://sterlingtek.trynt.com/digital-camera-batteries/ (external link)

Search around those sites a bit as both importers bundle the batteries with chargers if that might be of interest.

Since the 5D3, the only 3rd party I've used is Wasabi.
Back in the days of the BP511 I used many brands with good luck. Wasabi seemed to be one of the first to sort out the full communication with the camera issues in the 5D3, and then were the first to fix it again, after Canon's firmware update broke them.
