Kind of a wierd selection of images. Not the images themselves but the fact that they seem to stem for a photo workshop firm if going from the Flikr tags is anything to go by. Theres a couple more on their website by the way. (http://www.bauerfoto.de …00mm-f5-63-dg-os-hsm.html (external link)). Sadly none at F6.3 which I guess everyones really interested in.

On another note in Sigmas German Facebook page they (Sigma) are saying it should be available in October and shortly after available to rent.

(SIGMA Deutschland "Es soll schon im Oktober ausgeliefert werden und dann werden wir es auch zeitnah in den Verleih bringen ...")

Also as comment on the Facebook side is a comment that the Contemporary version will be available at the start of next year.

Well, the images themselves do not seem to be ones that might show off the len's best qualities. None of them seem really well-planned and composed, but rather random "happy snap" type shots. One of the images was also at f/13, which is probably well into diffraction territory.

Well they were obviously real world, hot sun and high contrast... plus shimmer etc. The detail on the hippo for 600mm has me excited. Even for f13,and the above environmental problems, the ox pecker shows feather detail I would not expect from such a zoom. I am impressed, simply as this lens is going to be quite cheap and looks sharper than my 100-400.

Yes, and they are still bad for all that. Again, no problem if you take these while out with your family having a fun day at a zoo and then post them up on Flickr for all to enjoy. But really strange choice for a corporation selling lenses to use as the very first sample images of the lens. I personally think that the image shortcomings are much less a reflection of the lens and more of the technique, both photographical as well as post-processing (the deer in the field seems over-sharpened and the gazelle grazing is flat and tepid in contrast) ... but all the more reason not to use them as sample images!

F13 shots look great, but the F7.1 shot looks ok, good even, but not great.

well based on those shots which do look like just opportunity type snaps first impression is its rates about the same as my tam 150 - 600 at about 500 - 550 so as they were shot at 600 may be a bit better at the 600 long end and perhaps a bit under my very sharp 100 - 400 at its max 400 but even with my 1.4 E on I can only get it out to 560 so it the sigma looks pretty reasonable at the magic 600 mark so may be a winner -- couple at f6.3 at 400 & 500 and 600 would have been real good to see
cheers rob

I agree, looks pretty good.

Looking forward to user reviews about AF performance for sports and moving subjects.

I agree the camera settings make it look like these weren't deliberate in any way, certainly not for marketing.

I'd imagine taken by more of a corporate employee than a pro photog.

On a proper support system, better exposures, and proper post processing I can see lots of potential.

Interesting if the 'C' is coming out months later then I wonder how many people will wait or just go for the 'S' anyway?

I think I will wait for the real/more experienced photographer reviews on this one before jumping in.

But wow, 14,000 views. Good way to get a lot of Flickr views I guess!

I see almost 10K views...

Its interesting that this lens is said to debut at $1999, vs the highly in demand Tamron at $999...

like everyone I am interested to see Sigma's justification for $1000 more vs Tamron

Too bad there are no examples of birds in flight/moving objects. That's why I pulled the trigger as the Tamron has been a disappointment in that respect; Although, I just got mine back from service, so we'll see if the update actually helps.

The individual photos are now over 15k views.

Not really that hard IMO to improve the Tamron to get to a very well priced 2K lens. Just make the AF much better for one.

Yes, but honestly I still wouldn't trust them until someone 'respectable' here (or Canon Rumors or the like) gives the AF the thumbs up for BIF.

The tamron's AF was fine I thought, even pretty good, it's the optics at 600 that could use improvement.

Stopped down, it was good, but that meant that it required a lot of light.

That f7.1 shot at 600 doesn't seem any better than the tamron at the same aperture. Could be due to the harsh light, more softer light would help.

IMO, this lens wide open needs to be as sharp as the tamron stopped down to be worth it because the tamron is good stopped down, but not great.

That hippo shot is suburb!!!

Understand this... typically these test shots/first images are crap and it's not till the true experts for 600mm shooting can really show the lens off.

For that understanding this lens is damn sharp at 600. Wait till Gabe gets one lol.
