So, according to the manufacturer's instructions (external link), this product shouldn't be used on a polariser filter. Well, I did. I tried blowing on it and wiping and the whole surface just got wet with condensation and completely foggy. Tried lens cleaning liquid: same result. So, I gave it a good brush with the FilterKlear. That did clean it, but...

What can happen? Have I just damaged my polariser? Removed the coating?

TIA

Take a picture with the filter on and see if any damage has occurred. Post an example

Hi Tia,

Your Filter surface should be okay. Our products are designed to be completely safe on glass surfaces. They do not remove any coatings.

The reason we used to say "do not use on polarizing filters" is because some polarizing filters have an uneven surface and when you use our Filterklear on the filter, you can see some carbon left over, on the surface of the filter. This is because the surface is not completely smooth.

Now a days, the filters are protected by two glass surfaces on each side, rendering the Filterklear completely safe to use on those kinds of filters.

To conclude, our Filterklear as of recently, due to updated technology, no longer states "do not use on polarizing filters" because the camera industry has evolved.

Best Regards,

The Lenspen Group

Hmm. I just ordered an NLP-1 a few days ago. Is this FilterKlear supposed to be superior?

Edit.... concave and flat pads (lens vs filter). Got it.

Never expected to get a reply from the manufacturer here, wow. (By the way, TIA = Thanks In Advance, lol).

The filter in question is a B+W 82mm Kaesemann polariser: top quality, so now I'm relieved to know I'm OK. I tried the filter after the cleaning and the polarisation is just fine. My main concern was not really the loss of polarisation capabilities but the introduction of colour casts by removing the coating. Glad to know now that won't happen.

Thanks again!

You are very welcome!
We try to update ourselves with everything that is going on out there, and if people have inquiries we try to resolve them as best we can.
I get forum articles forwarded to me from time to time where people talk about Lenspens and if there are any concerns i try to alleviate them :)
of course, I am not able to reply to ALL of the inquiries on the internet or catch them.

Posting questions on our website www.lenspen.com (external link) is the most helpful place to get a clear answer.

BTW: Noted on the "TIA", thank you!
