I was asked to shoot my cousins wedding and agreed because I knew they were really trying to keep the costs down. I've done very little portraiture work so I was probably more nervous than them! I'm fairly happy with what I came back with, and learned a lot about how I should have done a few things differently. Looking for some advice and critiques should I need to do this again. Thanks in advance guys!

You look to be a pretty decent photographer judging by these shots. Overall you did well.

The main area of critique I have is that you settled for spotty lighting in some of the shots when you didn't really have to. For the candid stuff it's unfeasible to move people, but for setup shots like the cake cutting, you could have suggested an angle for them to take and you could have positioned yourself so the sun was behind them. Note the leftmost bridesmaid in 5--backing them up a little likely would have improved that.

2 seems off because you've focused on the back of the bride's head. Get in there and find her reflected face.

The last is a little messy with the shadowing. If the balloons (which I didn't notice at all at first) are significant to the shot, shoot longer and back up to compress the B+G with the balloons in the background--show more sky.

I loved them, I think they tell the story well. You did a great job!
