Last weekend I went to the Wings & Wheels car show and got some good shots, mostly of cars. Used my EF-S 10-22 lens and I'm happy with the results.

These pictures are after all my Lightroom post production edits. My monitor isn't calibrated so I'm looking for some feedback to see if anything is off, overdone, lacking, missing, etc.

One mistake I became aware of during picture review is that I didn't meter correctly for black cars. Everything but the car was overexposed so I tried to correct and save the image in Lightroom.

Try adding a good quality CPL filter to the mix and get down lower for a changing POV.
A CPL is very important for controlling reflections in car photography..!!

For bright sunlight, they look OK to me.

I didn't meter correctly for black cars. Everything but the car was overexposed

And I'll bet that with white cars, everything was darker? And you had variations like this? Post #47
When the light isn't rapidly changing, you might consider using manual exposure.

The direct overhead sun hurt you as well. I try to never shoot unless its early am or late in the evening. The direct sun over head caused weird shadows in the body lines (red car) and cuased the black car to look like the shadow was part of the paint job.
Also kneel down. Your pics are nice, but the have the ‘look at my engine’ feeling to them since that is the direction or feel of the pic. If you kneeled down by the black car you could’ve got a real nice side shot showing that silky smooth black paint and had great reflections in the paint as well.
But of course everyone’s idea of a good pic, is just that, an idea. I like the pics. Id like a link to see the rest of the pics you took, as im a car guy and that’s what I like to do..

I didn't even think of a CPL, makes sense and I'm eager to try it! Also agree on the POV, I'm trying to remember to experiment while I'm out shooting to see what works, doesn't work and find those nice surprises. BTW, nice flickr page, love the photo closeups of the emblems!

You guessed it! :) Though it didn't look as bad out of the camera as the black cars did. I'm going to have to make manual shooting more of a part of my regime. I'm familiar with it and think I'll benefit more from it.

I agree and see what you mean. Good news is those are easy things to fix and I'll be eager to try it out again to see what improvements I can make. I wish the hoods would have been closed. While I love to see a nice restored and chrome engine compartment, the open hood breaks the lines of the car.

Thanks all for your help.

Here is the link to the Flickr album of that car show..

I agree with what others have said but there is a simple thing you can do on the first image. Clone out the orange cone/flag reflections on the rear quarter and below the door lock. They don't appear to be part of anything so they won't be missed.

Doesn't hurt to ask if you can use their car for a photo shoot. Their is a car event yearly that has tons of cars. A buddy asked to shoot one of the nicely restored ones and all it cost him was a $30 print to the owner of the car.
