Could you please recommend an 8.5x11 inkjet that does a relatively good job on both images and text?

Thank you.

At the risk of getting laughed off the forum, I'll say that I'm happy with my HP Photosmart 7520. It is mostly used for documents, but the photo quality is quite acceptable providing you use HP paper, since I don't think there is any way to load custom profiles. I use HP Premium Plus soft gloss 8.5x11 and find that it reproduces colors well, dries quickly, and is very smudge and water resistant. I also do the occasional 4x6 with it.

It is a networkable printer and also supports Google Cloud Print so I am able to print to it from phone, tablet, and Chromebox as well as desktop and laptop.

HP, Canon and Epson all make printers that are great for photos as well as documents. The thing to look at is ink costs. Printing color photos costs money...:)!:)

I've been in this business since the 1980s and have to admit I've never printed a single image myself. I've always used commercial printers. I'm very happy with that arrangement. I don't want to seriously print anything myself.

I just want a simple 8.5 x 11 to play with that does a relatively acceptable job on images and type. Everything I see are larger photo printers or general office all-in-ones. That is why I'm asking for help.

Thanks.

Thanks Tom, but that is too much printer for my needs.

I like my Canon Pixma MG5150. Five colour, CMYK dye inks for photo printing, and a black pigment for text. Really good looking documents from that combination. I usually use the top of the range Canon Platinum plus paper for the odd times I want a small sized print. As someone else mentioned about an HP printer, you cannot load up other paper profiles to the printer. Although thats not too bad if you use LR/PS to manage the colours. The thing is though given the cost of the paper, and OEM inks (had issues with non OEM in other printers so decided not to use them in this one ever) the Lab I use can do me 16×12 prints on Fuji Crystal Archive paper for about 60% the cost of printing an A4 at home. If I had to replace this printer I would pick the current equivalent model.

Pinto, I worked in the HP printer division for 15 years, and have no problem recommending them, but then Epson and Canon can be recommended, the problem is that in the end you have to make the choice. Go to places like E-Bay and Amazon, places that have some "rating" system, and check out those ratings. Sure, POTN is great for interaction, but I don't think it has an actual "rating" system for retail products:)!

Thank you for your interesting response to my inquiry.

Guess we'll all have to quit asking for folk's recommendations and impressions of cameras, lenses, bags, lighting, et al, and just head over to E-Bay and Amazon for the reviews. POTN is going to get awfully quiet.

I think what Tony was getting at is that you can see a lot more feedback on a site like Amazon and you don't have to wait. I entered a simple search string on Amazon... "Epson Photo Printer" which brought up THIS PRINTER (external link). There are 140 ratings and 125 reviews of just that printer...how long would it take to get that many responses on one printer here on POTN? And if you simply enter in "Photo Printer" you get scads of printers with hundreds of reviews each...and you don't have to wait.

POTN is excellent for discussion, though, and for asking opinions. It's just that you can get intstant gratification on Amazon (and other sites) easily with no wait. ;)

I'm quite aware of all the other sites that offer product ratings. Thank You.

I'll have to assume that you'll give the same advice to someone who is asking for recommendations on the new Cannon 16-35mm f4.

I'll be sure to make a note to not give any advice if it is you asking. Thank you.

You didn't give me any advice in your post. You simply reiterated what Tony Long said, which was only to tell me to look somewhere else for advice.

There are a number of threads on this forum asking for printer recommendations and in a cursory review I do not see any responses that tell the OP to go look somewhere else for the answer.

A very large percentage of posts on POTN are requests for advice. Forum rules dictate "If you know an answer to a question either answer it or say nothing." I thought Tony's response was inappropriate because "go look somewhere else is not an answer to my question. And your additional clarification of his answer wasn't at all helpful.
