PayPal has just updated its terms of service (Effective Date: November 18, 2014). Behold the nonsense...

  • We’re increasing the time for buyers to file a merchandise dispute (Item Not Received and Significantly Not as Described) from 45 days to 180 days. All references in the User Agreement to “Opening a Dispute within 45 days” have been updated to reflect “Opening a Dispute within 180 days.”

  • If a buyer files a Significantly Not as Described (SNAD) Claim for an item they purchased from you, you will generally be required to accept the item back and refund the buyer the full purchase price plus original shipping costs. You will not receive a refund of your PayPal fees. Further, if you lose a SNAD Claim because we, in our sole discretion, reasonably believe the item you sold is counterfeit, you will be required to provide a full refund to the buyer and you will not receive the item back (it will be destroyed). PayPal Seller protection will not cover your liability.

Never before has PayPal been more unfriendly towards sellers. How do you guys think this will affect the way we conduct business here on POTN?

My suggestion, boycott PayPal. You'll get along fine without it. I do.

6 months for the buyer to figure out it wasn't described correctly? that is ridiculous.

Wow, this is out of control! Why in the world would they increase it from 45 days to 6 months? That is crazy! It doesn't take someone that long to figure out if an item is "as described" and it just opens the door for all kinds of problems.

I see sellers only accepting "gift" payments to work around this new stupidity, but that leaves buyers completely unprotected.

45 days was already generous, 180 is just obscene. The scammers will be coming out of the woodwork with this change.

That would be against forum rules:
