I am the proud owner of a Canon G2 4.0 mega pixels camera and it does not work any more. I have tried putting in new batteries and have tried taking the batteries out for a couple of hours and nothing seems to work. It will not do anything at all, no power light, no lens extension, nothing in the display window. I know it wasn't dropped, it didn't get wet . It is treated with TLC but it just quit. Any suggestions on what to do will be greatfully accepted. For what it's worth I am retired and am on a fixed income but I really like the G2 camera, I was finally getting to know it's workings and the fact is I don't have $500 to buy another camera of equal proportions.
I thank you ahead of time for any and all assistance you can send my way.
Bert

You could send it in to Canon for them to look at??

Did you BUY new batteries or did you grab some out of a drawer that could have ran down over the years??

Bert, have you tried the AC Adapter?

I don't know if will help, but did you try changing the backup coin cell? (there is one in my G3, inside the main battery compartment, which has a little slide out holder for a coin cell)

Try looking at Canon tech support (or download the manual if you need) T:

Also, in case you're interested, here is a G2 guide (3rd party):

Best of luck.

If fresh batteries and/or the AC adapter don't scare the camera into life, I'd be very suspicious that one of the two fuses on the internal power board had blown. Unfortunately, replacing them requires either replacement of the board, or some fine soldering work. I've had to replace a fuse on a customer's G1 in the past (for some reason it decided to die just before I was going to send the IR camera back to the customer!).
If you do some web searches on "G1" and "fuse" you'll probably find some commentary about the issue, apparently it's not uncommon with old G1s (and that part of the G2 is very similar).

I'd recommend asking Canon for a repair quote...

I do hope it turns out to be something fixable but if it's not, please note that enough G2s are around that you do not have to buy a $500 replacement, you can literally find a few G2s which were impulse buys and sell for around $120-150 USD or so (from casually checking prices the last two weeks at Ebay USA). I myself just got a kit which was used so little, it shows no wear to any of the buttons and is still under warranty. I paid around $140 (and it had extras).

Best of luck.

My dearly loved G2 has become very flakey. I just bought a brand new battery (Nuon brand) but even fully charged the camere's behaviour is unpredictable. Sometimes the lens won't retract when set to OFF. Sometimes the LCD display will work and sometimes not. Both in shoot and review mode.

I have tightened all the screws but it made little difference. What is the coin shaped battery for? Could that be the problem - and if so where would I find a replacement?

Thank you for any help at all.

(I have the manual)

Chris

My g2 was also belly up too a few days ago. after reading threads in this forum, I think blown fuses should be the cause. I am going to order fuse from canon usa, and try to fix by myself. I got a photo of g1 power board in this forum, hope it is the same in g2. I still need someone tell me step by step instruction. thanks.
