Went backpacking down in the gorge last weekend. Here's a couple of the shots from that night, next time I want to make a dedicated trip just to shoot where I wont be hiking as far and can bring along a little more gear although I'm pretty pleased with how the M and 22mm pancake did.

I like #1 mainly cause of the gorge with fog and color . Would be nice if the sky could be darker but that is probably from LP in the BG or am I wrong ? #2 the sky could definitely be darker to show the MW better . Is this cause of the lens f/stop ? Either way a couple nice shots .

Thanks, I'd say its possible that I just overexposed a bit I only casually shoot nightscapes and this is probably my 2nd real attempt at it. I do know that from a technical standpoint I did use a shutter speed that was slightly too long, so at 100% you can see that the stars are starting to lose their shape.

Very open to critiques on how I could improve these as I am very new to this type of photography.

I was checking your images in Cs5 and , well gotta say your Histogram isn't a very pretty site ;) . What is your PP and can you possibly post an unedited image of that first one ?

It was edited in LR5 I don't generally pay too much attention to the histogram, is there anything specifically I should be looking for in nightscapes? I'll post a link to the raw sometime when I'm back on my computer.

Aaron FWIW , this is a different RAW format . I downloaded the image but PS Cs5 would not open it . Says it's not a RAW file it reconizes . Also tried MS Windows Viewer and it also said the same thing . What kind of RAW format are you using ?

Its a .cr2 straight from the camera(EOS M) if you haven't updated CS5 in a while its possible that your copy of ACR doesn't have support for the camera. Looks like you have to have at least ACR 6.7 to open files from the M. Hold on a sec I'll upload a DNG.

I've tried both formats you had posted and sorry to tell you but I cannot make anything from them . The CR2 file must have had something happened when you uploaded it cause even at home now I cannot get it to open . The PNG file I couldn't make it do right so some data has been lost changing it from a RAW file to a PNG . Sorry , but just can't work it . I'm stumped . I think your first image in blue is better than what I could make out .

Haha well we tried. They both open on my system, not sure where the compatability issue is but oh well. I believe I am having them both printed at a local shop so I shall see when they come in.

Well I played around with the original you posted and what I did was duplicate original , then darkened the copy and made a mask of just the bottom portion of the mountains and fog and pasted top the one I darkened . And this is what I come up with .

Looks good, I'll probably be doing a major re-edit to both photos before I send them out to get printed.
