I just bought another iMac earlier this year, I might have to try to sell it and buy the new retina version when it comes out!

Apple is expected to announce a Retina iMac and new iPads along with Yosemite on the 16th.

I have the 2011 model. The last one with the built-in Superdrive. I'm still pretty happy with it. Especially since I added a 256GB SSD as the startup and the 1TB that it came with for all my media.

I'm very excited about a Retina display on an iMac, whether it comes out on Oct 16 or a year from now. Like many folks here, I do a ton of photo and video work, and a 4K or 5K display would be a dream to work on. I could very much use a Mac Pro, but when you take a look at the prices, you get so much more price-wise with the high-end iMacs. I just can't justify the price for a Mac Pro.

If a Retina iMac is released on Oct 16th, I'll wait and see real-world results from whatever GPU they use to drive it, and if need be, I'll reluctantly wait another year if stronger processors are needed for an optimum experience. I guess we'll find out soon! Good times for sure...

Yeah I'm looking to replace my 2011 15" MBP with a new 27" iMac, but Im waiting till the 16th to see what they come out with. Is it just a retina model that their talking about coming out with? Or are they revamping the whole iMac lineup? Originally I wanted an Mac Pro but after researching it I figured I would spend about twice as much on a pro by the time I finished buying the monitor/mouse/keyboard. But their so cool looking :). I wish they weren't having this release that way I could just buy it now. I'm just worried they will come out with a revamped version of the model I want.

Daniel,

I suspect the design will stay the same, but they might ass a retina option to the 27" iMac plus they will receive new processors.

I'd absolutely wait to see what comes out!

I just wish Apple would make a regular computer. Mac mini and iMac are based on power efficiency and use low-power or laptop-based components and the Mac Pro is too expensive from using Xeon parts, even though it doesn't take advantage of that technology by offering only single-CPU options, but there is no middle ground between the two, if you want a computer based on a desktop 6/8-core CPU and GPU, there's nothing.

I acquired an expensive camera so I can hang out in forums, annoy wedding photographers during formals and look down on P&S users... all the while telling people it's the photographer, not the camera.

Oops! Darn autocorrect got me on that one!

I'm really excited about the new 5K iMac. I absolutely want to order one...I'm just waiting to see some real-world reports and benchmarks of the upgraded 295X GPU. Also, I want to see if the display can be calibrated.

Exciting times for sure!

I just got my first MAC - macbook pro all maxed out - and the screen is beautiful. I can only imagine what a 5K screen looks like!
