Love those pics ^ The hornets - powerful, sharp and meaningful, the Jolly well looks like it should being the largest US mil type like that, the herc - enough said, but the 35, "oh dear" what type of plane is that supposed to be? it just looks like it has been thrown together to quickly, it looks plastic and frankly rubbish.

P.

Perhaps my photo doesn't do it justice. It's the F-35B Lightning II, a combo of bomber and fighter jet. Said to be the world's premier combat aircraft.

From what I understand from a Marine buddy of mine that's been an F-18 electrician for the better part of the last 30 years, you're both correct. :p

nice images, gutted the F-35 never made it to RIAT - it might look like an ugly toy but the videos I've seen of it are very impressive, looks like quite a thing to see.

Radial engines don't actually leak oil, by the way. They just mark their territory!

Thanks everyone. Here's two more. The first one is a gal who kept standing on her chair on & off blocking my view. The second I don't remember taking, but it looks kind of funny or weird...

This year's show was kind of blah. There were a lot of lulls in the show. It was also very hot this year there. I am glad I had access to the media area. I must have drank a gallon of water and didn't even go to the bathroom. It was by far the hottest Miramar airshow I have been too. Most years, we have to worry about the marine layer being an issue..not this year.

Where is the media area located?

I bought a grandstand seat and went to the very top. But I didn't like it. The wood boards have a bit of give to them and I didn't feel like I had steady footing as on concrete. People moving about on the grandstand created vibration. That could be a problem when shooting at slow shutter speeds. Also, lots of people buying large umbrellas from the vendors got in the way. And it was crowded at the top, too.

I believe the best shooting location, besides the media area, is along the fence.

Right on about the marine layer. Friday's weather provided a clear sky.

Nice shots. Thanks for posting. Love those F-22's & now the 35's.
Was out at Miramar in 2007, and the runway faces the sun. Looks like it's still the same.
Like those 2 shots at the end too. Good Luck!
