Looks like a screw on 'lens' that is in addition to your standard lens. To fit it you would need to ensure that it is the correct filter thread.

You cannot use the adapter because its male threads (on the camera side of it) are not the same size as the filter thread in your lens. Your brother simply bought the wrong device for your lens.

If you get the correct adapter, you will need to remove the filter completely and screw the adapter to the front of your lens where the filter was.

yep, wrong size, i can only suggest returning it as there's no way of getting that to fit.

You can use a step down ring so it will fit. But there is no way to get good results with such devices. Adapters like this is made for cameras without changeble lenses.

Using a step-down ring is definitely]NOT a good idea because the wide-angle adapter is smaller than your lens. If it were the other way around, it might work. Don't waste your money. Return (best move) or exchange (second best) the device.

Even if you manage to attach it, the optical quality will be so lousy that it wouldn't be worth the cost of the adapter or the effort of screwing it on the lens.

I wrote that it is a way to get it to fit. But you will probably get severe vignetting.

Get rid of the whole adapter, and buy a real wide angle.
