Game-changing copying machine?

I kid, but are there some hints or a confirmation that this is camera-related?

I got my fingers crossed for a mirror less EOS 1 with 20 stops of dynamic range and 30-35 megapixels.

Well there is another big Photo event happening in NY the end of the month. I wonder if that has anything to do with this???

They need to synchronize Swatches, then - there's a disparity of 22 days in their countdowns.

But they may be doing the announcement in advance to create the excitement to draw people to Canon to check out the new toy.

Since there were a lot of rumors of a 7DmkII being announced at Photokina, I'd be surprised if Canon could keep a lid on something bigger being announced at PhotoPlus. Gotta give Canon credit for being the leaders in marketing:D

This site *might* be bogus.... That 'seeimpossible' part bothers me.

I did some pings and whois lookups.

Canon's real site: www.usa.canon.com (external link) resolves to IP address 146.184.152.44 which is:

OrgName: Canon USA Inc.
OrgId: CANON-1
Address: One Canon Plaza
City: Lake Success
StateProv: NY

It makes sense that a major US company like Canon would have their own web server.

But... seeimpossible.canon.usa.com resolves to 162.209.20.8 which is:

OrgName: Rackspace Hosting
OrgId: RACKS-8
Address: 5000 Walzem Road
City: San Antonio
StateProv: TX

Hmm.. Why would Canon USA use a third party web hosting site to make an important announcement?

See post #4 ;)

The logo seems to be a new one, though, and it could certainly be interpreted as 'capturing light,' which may indicate imaging of some sort. Then again, it may be an update on an existing copier logo -

Hmm.. Why would Canon USA use a third party web hosting site to make an important announcement?

Well it would make sense for Canon's main site to be a dedicated web server: Canon would want to be sure for security reasons and maintenance of all support issues. If this is just a transient announcement, though, why not use a cloud service like Rackspace? If this isn't a legitimate Canon ad, then I'd be more interested in seeing when Canon brings out their lawyers and yanks the site. I hadn't seen "see impossible" as a slogan before: I just googled and all Canon rumors are showing this link (I would think Canon would be yanking this ASAP if some prank). Clicking on the disclaimers of this site also goes to usa.Canon...so I would think Canon would be alerted and yank this very quickly if not sponsored by them.

This countdown could very well just be a new copier, printer, or point and shoot....but it appears this is still great PR around the photog sites:)
