Push the Q button, and scroll to the part where it says RAW. You can select that and change the file format, I think with the top circular selector.

You can also set it to record RAW + JPEG if you like. You'll have the JPEG for quick use and the RAW in case something didn't go quite right. Great camera, by the way...

that sure sounds like a great idea steve.......is that difficult to set the T2i to do this in both Raw and jpeg?

If you don't already have it, highly recommend you go to the Canon USA website and download the manual for the camera.

Also, on Amazon there are guide books for just about any particular camera model, including T2i (external link). These pick up where the manual leaves off... or at least explain things in more detail. It might make a very nice gift for your wife!

I've been shooting for 35+ years, much of it professionally, and have used many different cameras... But whenever I get a new one I always make a point of getting at least one of the guide books. They're helpful getting up to speed using a new camera effectively as quickly as possible and with minimal fuss. I am sure there are many good guides, am personally most familiar with and can recommend those by Michael Guncheon, Charlotte Lowry and David Busch.

If she's new to photography in general, while at Amazon I'd also recommend Bryan Peterson's "Understanding Exposure". it's an excellent book, not specific to any particular camera, but is full of info on how to use just about any camera well.
