Found old Vivitar 252 flash in closet. Will this work on 350D? Sorry if this is a silly question. Antique roadshow material ?

IIRC, that may be an auto-thyristor one, which has its own sensor to cut off the flash when it's reached the proper exposure. So you'd set shutter and aperture on the camera. Jon
