To kill 2 birds with one stone... getting my 7D macro'd popcorn out to wait out the time.

I’ve decided I'm ready to purchase the 7D MK II as a second camera; paired with my 5D MK III. What I don't want to get caught up in as a pre-order and not receive it Oct 31st. There's so many vendors selling it and yes, they'll promise it to you to get the sale. Does it make sense to order from Canon direct, with free overnight shipping instead or wait and buy it at your local store? BestBuy is the only store in my area and I doubt if they sell the body alone. I know it's probably late in the game to pre-order, what is the best way to have the 7D MK II in hand on Oct 31?

^ I pre-ordered body only via BB.....and I doubt any but a select few will actually have in hand Oct 31....I'm thinking maybe Mon or Tues of the following week.

If I were you, I would visit several BB on Oct. 30 and 31 on the chance they would have some in stock. Or call customer service at B&H and ask them if you can still get in the first next day air shipment allotment (I doubt it).

The 30th is the ship date, but that can mean the street date too, no?

In days before it's "released". As I said, I got the tamron 150-600 before it was "shipping" or released.

I was at my local store where I oredered mine today in Berkeley, and they said Haloween at the earliest.

During the weekend, in Montreal, there is the Salon de la Photo.
I spoke to the Canon rep who told me that the camera should be in stores by the end of the week (Friday the 31st).

5 days and counting. I know many are super excited. I don't have a 'bird' trip for a while so my excitement is tempered and I'll have plenty of time to wait for the experts to come up with idea settings. One camera I'll be comparing to (and I know its apples vs. oranges) is the dinky Sony A6000 which has in its own right an impressive AF system, sadly as we all know there is no longish native FL for that platform (and probably never will be due to flange/physics).
Remember gold star for first to post a pic in this thread, then we'll ask a mod to shut this thread down; there will be thread overkill on the 7Dii soon enough

p.s. just ordered the battery grip from 42cd street photo, they say it is in stock--we'll see about that.

If I can get one this week, I'll be testing it on birds/bif.
As long as it's not downpouring next weekend.
