REALLY Expensive parts!?!?!?

So i bought my 1DmkIII and just realised that i'm missing a very small but important part of the camera, It seems to be a small disk shaped bit i believe is used to cover the PC communication port.

I found one online but it's about £17 ($27) is this really the price i should expect to pay!?

Try giving these a call, I had to get one a year or so ago, they only sell them in 3's but I think it was £12 including postage.

i'm just amazed how much it is for a little bit of plastic! i can get a new battery for only £8 more! would it hurt the cam if it is left uncovered? I guess not so weatherproof.

They know people's OCD on having that port exposed will force them to pay 200x the price of the part. When you get one, put teflon tape on the threads before attaching it. It will put more positive force on the piece and it won't come unscrewed as easily.

Don't get too excited until you see if they charge you import duties plus 20% VAT, soon as it lands on British soil!

I drive a 1997 Land Rover.... so don't try talking to me about the cost of spare parts! They're still expensive, even tho I buy them from Canada for about 30% savings. There's no import duty from GB to Canada or from Canada to US... but there is a hefty duty for spares coming direct from GB to US... go figure .

A little blob of silicone sealant/caulk will do the trick. Most of them remain flexible after curing, so you could remove it later if you ever felt the need

It was originally a $4,000USD camera. Your issue is kind of like buying a Lamborghini Gallardo, then being shocked that you need to use a special formulation synthetic oil. It's $27.
