The more I read about these multi-layer sensors, the less impressed I am.
So the big strength seems to be they provide better color. But I've never really had a complaint with the colors on modern sensors. I suppose if I was a product photographer it might be important.
There seem to be a lot of downsides, though, including poor DR and poor high ISO performance. I've read that Canon is working on those issues, but I'm skeptical.
Canon's Patents go above and beyond. What if they have discovered a way to provide current ISO performance with twice the resolution and much better colors.
Sure the colors are great... but more is better. And the technology represents no AA filter needed at all. Ultimately bringing out more detail.
Everything will be sharper... more colorful... etc.
Canon just needs to unlock the DR and ISO performance.
