The more I read about these multi-layer sensors, the less impressed I am.

So the big strength seems to be they provide better color. But I've never really had a complaint with the colors on modern sensors. I suppose if I was a product photographer it might be important.

There seem to be a lot of downsides, though, including poor DR and poor high ISO performance. I've read that Canon is working on those issues, but I'm skeptical.

Canon's Patents go above and beyond. What if they have discovered a way to provide current ISO performance with twice the resolution and much better colors.

Sure the colors are great... but more is better. And the technology represents no AA filter needed at all. Ultimately bringing out more detail.

Everything will be sharper... more colorful... etc.

Canon just needs to unlock the DR and ISO performance.

ISO performance of the sensors that canon is coming out with are fine. if there is anything to complain about is DR and the AA filter

it would be nice if they can remove that from their sensors. it's not needed.

New advanced sensor tech resulting in advanced color clarity? ............from Canon? Color me skeptical.

Hope it's true, though. Hope they finally do something daring, bold, and cutting edge. But, they won't. Canon may do a lot of interesting research, but when it comes to actual products they play it ultraconservative and safe and timid. Or so it seems. But, I want to be wrong about that!

Why did you insinuate Canon would use foveon image sensor that Sigma owns when it wasn't mentioned in your link? Canon makes and designs their own sensors.

Check out the B&H review of the 7DII and imagine that camera with all those features combined with this sensor..

Hahaha. Went and checked out that video. I nearly died listening to the introduction. It sounded like a 3am infomercial. I forced myself to watch the remainder and couldn't get myself to take the guy seriously when he was so obviously reading off of a teleprompt.

You would think that a company who is as large as BH is, could make a more entertaining product review of a camera that is so highly anticipated.
