That brings back memories of when I coached that age group...Kids wandering off in the other direction, standing in the middle of the field, singing Christmas Carols in the middle of a game. I actually kind of miss it!

Great shots here, guys :)

Some more from my side. It was very dark, but Canon's 5D3 doesn't have any bigger problems with ISO 8.000 or 10.000  Friday evening training session in Dusseldorf, Germany:

I this last set. The darker images give it a different look and feel. They look really good for the light!

In almost every sport, anyone wearing a black and white stripped shirt/jersey like that is a referee of some sort.

That explains the question asked by seanp3. :)

To me it is perfectly normal to see the other team in striped jersey
At the soccer games I shoot (amateurs) the referee has multiple jersey's in different coulors. He picks the coulor that is in most contrast with both teams. Mostly he wears all black or yellow or purple.
In this game he chose yellow.

I will try to include the referee in future posts, if possible.

i really like this thread - I am starting to shoot soccer and the pics above give some real direction in great ways to capture the excitement of the game. Which lenses are people using for the most part? 100-400? 150-600? other?

ceriltheblade :
Most people on the matches using 400mm F2.8 or 300mm F2.8.
People who are just starting they use 70-200 F2.8.
I rarely see a 300mm F4 or 200-400mm F4.
In my opinion the most important in sports photography is a very strong competitor separation from the background. This is possible when you have a lens F2.8
500mm with light F6.3 weakly separates the player from the background.

I use my 70-200 all the time for shooting soccer.
I started with a 70-200 f/4 and upgraded to an f/2.8.
most of the time I can walk around the field so I can 'zoom with my feet'.

In some competitions or tournaments, photographers must sit in designated areas and can not go where they want ;)

Very good one. It would be excellent if his legs were not cut, but still
