Having moved away from much of my sports shooting, I sold off any big glass I had and now use the 1.4x II TC on my 70-200 MkII and find that with decent (not great, just decent) light and relatively smaller crops, I see very little degradation in the IQ of the images. Obviously, if you are going to crop less, patience becomes key and you really have to allow the action toe develop and come to you. This is actually a great approach anyway and one I learned years ago from some extremely well respected shooters here and elsewhere. In the end, I think I makes you a better shooter and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend using the TC if you either can't afford longer glass or can't justify it even if you can afford it. Obviously, all that goes out the window if you are willing to put a 600 f/4 in my hands!

Thanks for the input namasste!

I was considering renting a 1.4X TC to see if it performed a little better than the 2X...good to hear the performance should be pretty decent.

Don't get me wrong...I REALLY like the 400mm f2.8 I was able to borrow, but don't think I can reasonably justify the cost for the use it'd get.

Maybe if SI or ESPN comes knocking one day I'll pony up for it...but shooting for experience keeps the budget pretty limited.

Thanks for the shares! Didn't notice the port-a-potty until you mentioned it.

It was a gloomy old day here in NZ yesterday. Here are a couple of shots from a local club match

Awesome shots!

It's great to hear about the record turnouts for FC Cincinnati...here in Pittsburgh it's a struggle some nights to give tickets away. Unless there's fireworks. Then EVERYONE comes.

Is that last one a remote camera shot? Or did you happen to be laying inside the goal with a wide angle lens?

Thank you!

That is a remote. 1D Mark IV with a 16-35.

They're trying really hard to make that push for MLS. I'm pretty interested in seeing how they'd due if the Reds weren't so bad this year, but they definitely have the right people behind them. If the Lindners can make something happen in Cincinnati, nobody can.

Great set. Some super action. Where was the remote camera positioned? Not inside the goal, surely?

Thank you!

That's down on the ground in the back corner. Pretty much right against the net. These USL goals are the most shallow ones I've ever seen, and that's a fairly significant crop... definitely deceiving looking! haha
