Hi every one
Current I have this tripod Vanguard Alta Pro 263AB 100 Tripod W/SBH 100 Ballhead

http://www.bhphotovideo.com …0_Alta_Pro_263AB_100.html (external link)

I would like to replace the ball head with Vanguard GH-100 Pistol-Grip Ballhead.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com …&InitialSearch=yes&sts=pi (external link)

I need some advise for tripod head or any better than GH-100 tripod head for my Vanguard Alta Pro 263AB 100 Tripod.

Thanks

From what I've read, though pistol grip ball head sounds like a nice, convenient way to attach your camera to a set of tripod legs, in actual use, they don't work as well as one would hope or think.

The Sirui K-30X seems to be well regarded here on POTN. http://www.bhphotovideo.com …K30_K_30x_Ball_Head.htmlb (external link)

If you type "Sirui K-30X" in POTN's search engine, several threads come up. They are a bit more expensive than the Vanguard GH-100 but I have a hunch that you'll end up being happier with the Sirui products.

If you get a Sirui ball head like the one I mentioned, you could also buy a L bracket. They are camera specific (unless you buy a universal one) and will allow you to go from landscape to portrait without dropping the camera to the side.

Here is an explanation of how they work: http://www.reallyrightstuff.com/s.nl/it.I/id.6/.f#l-plates (external link)

I love my RRS BH-55 but I wasn't sure JimmyT wanted to spend that much given the link he posted.

I agree with getting an L-bracket. It makes changing between landscape and portrait so easy. If you are happy with your current tripod/ball head for landscape an L-bracket will make you happy using the same ball head for portrait. This is assuming your current ball head is arca-swiss compatible.

Otherwise the Sirui K-30X is an excellent ball head for the price. But I would still recommend an L-bracket. I use a Sirui K-40X and L-bracket when using short lenses.

Good luck!
