I went into the store today to see if they will price match CPW (they did), and when looking up the SKU found on their website on the computer, it showed it was deleted from the system. They could still order it.

Does this mean, there will be something replacing it? Or maybe a different box? I haven't seen anything on canon rumors about a new 24-70.

Well, it's who you know...Technically, there isn't a list from what I remember.

The lens is still in BB's inventory.

Not in their database when you look it up via the store's Inventory program. It's still able to be ordered, but the SKU is deleted from the system. They do this with discontinued items.

I think it means that BB does not keep this lens in inventory. When a customer wants to buy it, they order it from the vendor.

Three points.
1.) Searching BB's website by SKU (5100207) still pulls up this lens. It is still in their inventory.
2.) It is available for local pick-up in 3 days. It is still in their inventory.
3.) What difference does any of this make? If a customer orders it; they will get it. That is the entire point of retail operations, connecting consumers with products.

This lens is practically brand new. It won't be replaced for another decade. It makes sense for BB to not stock a lens like this. The kind of people who will spend that kind of cash on a lens aren't typical BB shoppers anyway.

Pretty simple stuff, isn't it?

Yup. I agree

28-70 2.8L was a 1993
24-70 2.8L was a 2002
Version II was a 2012

V2 is so good I agree... we won't see it replaced till after 2020.

No. Again, I was in the store and what we were in was completely different. best buy does not do a drop ship. They have some in the district warehouse. But, once again on the inventory manager program, it shoes the sku as being deleted. Even though it's deleted you can still order what's left. Yes, it will be on the website still.

When I gave her the Sku, which was from the website, she looked it up this way and said, "this has been deleted from inventory and no one has it anymore. Let's see if I can still OMS it. Must be discontinued since only the warehouse has only a few left."

This is the normal procedure for things that are discontinued at best buy. And yes, a lot of people who can afford this lens will buy it from best buy since they price march, offer 18 mo interest free financing or 5% back in rewards. They also offer accident protection on these products and there are more best buys than other camera stores.

I buy lots of refurbished stuff directly from Canon. When I buy new, I buy from Best Buy. Why? Price matching, 18 months 0% interest, 30-day no-questions-asked return policy. It is good to know that I can still buy a 24-70L II from Best Buy, even though they don't sell it any more.

OK, which scenario makes more sense?

1) Canon is discontinuing a 2 year old flagship lens

2) BB is no longer stocking a very expensive, low turnover item and the potato that works there doesn't know how to interpret their inventory management system

Inventory f-ups are the worst predictor of upcoming products.

How did you even arrive at the conclusion that a 2 year old flagship lens is being replaced? They're not camera bodies

Canon 24-70 f/2.8 II deleted from Best Buy's inventory

I can't imagine why anyone would ever find out this 'information'.
