I wouldn't have even bothered to photograph this guy but he was so aggressive that it made me very curious as to what type of snake this. This little guy was about 8" long and 1/4" thick. This was in the Chicago area. Thanks for your help

I don't think he has the right eyes or head shape to be a copperhead or rattler, but he looks a lot bigger than the stated dimensions ? You can call me Ned

the only thing that it looks like to me would be a water snake, and they are aggressive. VBA #299
