Aggresive little snake

I wouldn't have even bothered to photograph this guy but he was so aggressive that it made me very curious as to what type of snake this. This little guy was about 8" long and 1/4" thick. This was in the Chicago area. Thanks for your help

No snake expert, but aggressive baby snake sorta screams rattler of some sort. Baby copperhead?

I've been looking around and I think this might be a northern brown snake

I don't think he has the right eyes or head shape to be a copperhead or rattler, but he looks a lot bigger than the stated dimensions ?

Yeah, brown snake...(formerly Dekay's snake). I dont think I've ever seen one act aggressive though, usually incredibly docile.

I photographed him on an asphalt walking path, so look at the size of the rock in the asphalt and that shows you how small this guy was.

the only thing that it looks like to me would be a water snake, and they are aggressive.
