I'm told I can zoom in a picture and then retake that same pciture but close up? Does this make sense? How do I do this? I've had my G3 for about 3 months and am still totally confused with it. But I love it.

This doesn't make any sense to me.... You could blow a picture up with your computer, but quality would be lost.

Yes for shure with the 4 Mpixels you have the possibility to zoom one part of your picture. It's depends of your output! If you want to print 240 pixels/inch seems to be the safest side but for the web you could go further!
This should be done in an image software application by selecting (zooming) the interesting part, when done off line from a given picture this is called cropping.

You may be referring to zooming in with the optical zoom first, and then using the digital zoom.

Optical zoom will zoom in like a traditional camera.

Digital zoom essentially 'blows up' the image to a larger size, and is sort of a 'zoom within the zoom'.

Hope this helps,
Stu.

...and just be sure that you realize that your optically zoomed photo is the maximum in quality your camera will produce, and the digitally zoomed beyond that is just zooming through the digital processor further into the maximum optical photo.

In other words, photographically, digital zoom gains you nothing.
