This was actually the 2nd time I tried to photograph the Milk Way but the first time with my new Tokina 11-16mm lens. Both shots were 11mm, 25 sec, ISO 2500 at f/2.8
Comments welcomed.

This shot I managed to be pointing at a shooting star. Lucky shot!

On this shot I tried to paint the barn with a flash light.

Thanks Kenny! I forgot to mention the shots were taken in central Montana back in September. As you probably are aware, you are lucky to see stars let alone the Milky Way in central Maryland.

Curious about how you did the barn please?
composite two pics? light painted the barn for one exposure?
Noob mind inquiring :)

Scratch that request---just read you painted with a flash light.
I think the total result is awesome.

Thanks! I wasn't sure how bright to make the barn. I have one shot where it is silhouetted which makes for a nice shot as well.

Thanks! Yeah, that is all I did. Single exposure with an LED flashlight. Hard part was getting the barn painted fairly evenly. Then just tweaked the barn in Lightroom to dull a few spots and brighten a few others to make it look even. Just wish I had more time there with clear skies to play around with different settings. After the 2nd night smoke moved in from the California forest fires 1,000 miles which put an end to my fun.

I live in Carroll County and lived there or Baltimore my entire life - I didn't see the Milky Way until I was about 40 or so years old from a boat with no land in sight. It's a beautiful sight.

It's sad what most people miss due to light pollution or whatever it's called.

Small world! Between the lights from Westminster, Baltimore and the 140 corridor there isn't much opportunity for astrophotography in our area.

Here is the one with the barn silhouetted. Well, almost silhouetted. I also threw in another shot as well.

That 11-16 lens is a keeper for crop cameras and astrophotography.
I got mine 2 months back.

I agree with Ron on the #2 barn is slightly too bright for my taste, it's commanding the eye too much.
Your #4 image seems the perfect foreground lighting to balance the MW.
