For people with large hands a grip makes sense on a rebel.

+1. With my larger hands, a grip makes the camera feel much more comfortable in my hand, especially with my T4i.

Some moments are too amazing to be ruined with words.

I have a grip for my T1i.

Yeah, I think it's mainly that (at least it feels) when you shoot standard your hand is basically in line with your nose, but then when you go vertical you have to hold it basically at your forehead.. just feels very different to me, I guess.

I noticed the exact same thing. When I first got the grip, it felt weird having my elbow down, shutter hand at the side of my face (though a little higher), and looking through the viewfinder halfway down the left side of the camera.

The weird feeling goes away REALLY quick.

And, photographing dozens of basketball games each season with a camera in portrait mode helps you get used to vertical grips. I was so busy tracking the action that I didn't pay attention to the grip.

This x1000. If you spend a fair amount of time ready to shoot in portrait mode the grip helps a TON with fatigue, in spite of it making the camera heavier. It takes a lot of energy to hold your elbow up above your head for an extended period of time.

Yes. The portrait grip is much bigger/fatter and feels better in my hand. It feels like I can get good grip with more of my fingers and can get it into the palm of my hand. It actually feels weird to me now when I shoot vertical for a while with the grip, then switch to horizontal. The landscape grip on the rebels is so much smaller, feels like I am holding it with my finger tips.

Kinda like the difference between picking up a large stout glass vs. a tiny tea cup.
