My guess is it's a goat, with half on one side and half on the other?

I'm loving all the pictures posted.

Fairlane, I'll guess goat head at an Asian meat market.

Heading out to the Statesville balloon fest this weekend. Hope to get some DOF shots there. It will be hard to match the ones you all have put up this week though.

Here are two of mine. Red berries on a glass table. Taken with the 5Dc and the 50mm f/1.8 II wide open.
Focus stacking:

One single shot from the sequence used for focus stacking, with very shallow depth of field:

I took these at night, corrected WB in Lightroom, then processed them the same way in Photoshop, but there is still a slight colour difference between them.

Good idea on the focus stacking, Levina!
Well stacked!

Are you doing that without a tripod?!
No way I'm that steady ...

Thanks, Jo!

No, I always use a tripod when shooting for focus stacking. The alignment needs to be very precise. At least in Photoshop. But then, PS isn't that good at focus stacking to begin with and often messes it up. If I were to do this on a regular basis, like e.g. macro shooters do, I would get Zerene. From what I hear it's THE application for this.

Nice job, Levina. I've wondered what else could be done with the DoF topic and haven't come up with an idea yet. I didn't even think of focus stacking.

I agree! Levina, as I've said before, you do wonderful still lifes, and these are no exception.

Was going to do a focus stack for that thistle shot but I made such a hash of it that I threw it out!

What kind of berries are those? We have a shrub called 'catoniasta' that looks similar.

Richard, thank you so much for those kind words, but I feel you give me too much credit, really. I am just experimenting. I do thoroughly enjoy it though. So much so that I seem to have stopped shooting birds altogether!

Yes, I've had failed focus stacks too. Especially shots taken outside with moving things in them (leaves in the wind, people moving through frames etc.) and then it won't work. And Photoshop can be terribly finicky and just simply mess it up. Even shots taken indoors, gear on a tripod, remote shutter control and still PS fails to do a proper stack. Quite annoying. I'm working on another idea at the moment and PS is being difficult again. Grrr...

As to what berries they are? You're asking *moi*!! Good grief, Richard, I can hardly tell the difference between a tulip and a gladiola! They were red berries on a bush in the park?

I bet people drop Rs where you live, because if that's a phonetic rendering, your shrub is probably cotoneaster.
