It's basically a panorama but with a twist as you don't stitch horizontally but all around a subject. The result is an image that combines the best of a wide angle lens and a telephoto lens. Bench #1 - Brenizer image. Also a lot of shots stitched for this, resulting in a huge file. I think it shows very well how this method can do what no single lens can do in a single shot.
