I know shots of these types are sort of cliche, but I had to try to see if I could pull one off...

Hi cholmes75,
I really like this but it does look a bit over sharpened, imho you have a better image with a bit of the top cropped off.
Regards Peter.

I don't know about a cliche', but I have a problem with the level of interest.

However, the exposure looks good, and there's not much you can do with a bald, cloudless sky, except wait for a sky with some drama.

Let's face it, winter 'scapes are tough.

I think you could "photoshop" a "dark and gloomy night" sky behind it and maybe superimpose a couple of ravens on the trees. You could call it "Nevermore"!!!

The trees are rather average if you're going to take pictures of trees without leaves. They lack any pop or special shape.

How did you get such a clear blue sky. I never have success with sky colours.

Take care

There are several trees that you could shoot in winter that would be interesting. Try a Sycamore, it is a white tree, white trunk, white limbs and stands out in a crowd. There is also a Coral Bark Japanese Maple which is bright orange. This one won't be available in the woods, but a nursery might have one. Also try shooting the tree as a silhouette.

Just luck, I imagine.

As for the shot itself (with regards to previous feedback), I was focusing more on my technique than on the subject matter. I know it isn't the most scintilating subject. :D
