Hi well I want to buy a square 10 stop filter and I think will go with the Haida ND3.0 1000x in 100mm x 100mm.

But was wondering if I can get any other filter holder? In case it doesn't matter anyone have any recommendation on low side price lol. I will be using this on 77mm lens on my sigma 10-20 at around 15mm and 24-105L

Thanks.

The holder does make a difference, especially on wide angles. If you're not careful, it will vignette at the widest angle. You need to make sure that the holder is sufficiently wide as to avoid this. Otherwise, you can forget shooting at or near 10mm.

If this isn't really an issue, go for it. Just make sure it fits!

UWA will pose problems on filters that are handheld. Even otherwise I would love to keep my hands free and reduce chances of camera shake by staying away from Camera body :) There are cheap filter holders available on eBay i believe there is one being sold under the brand called 'FilterDude'

cheers

Well yeah, I didn't express correctly lol.. I didn't mean hand holding. Just was not sure if when we get on to this kind of filters we should buy the fancy/expensive filter holders like for example the big stopper and the foundation kit.

So then it doesn't care if I get those cheap filter holders just making sure they are for the size of the filter i'm getting, right ?

Filter holder does make a difference. I prefer Lee over Cokin.

Lee seems to be more sturdy. I've used Cokin filter holder smaller size before. The way Lee clips to the adapter is better.

I use a cheap ebay knock off of a Cokin P holder and I've never had any problems with it. Holds my HiTech and Singh Ray filters just fine, and for a fraction of the cost of the high end holders. I think I paid about $20-$25 for the holder and the adaptor ring. I've considered upgrading to the Lee holder, but every time I look at the price I just can't see the justification for the extra $$$.

I've used both lee and cokin I prefer the lee for it's quick release as You can leave the adapter ring on the lens

I have Lee set up in 100mm & also Cokin P in 85mm with Hitech grads.

The Lee set up is without a doubt much much better but as has been said you get what you pay for. Lee is better build quality, easier to use & does look the part. Interestingly though [aside from the lens view vs vignetting] there's no visible difference in the final image [quality, tint, etc] from each set up IMO ;)
