My 7D is broken and won't communicate with ANY of my Canon LP-E6 batteries. Does anyone know how much it might cost to repair it? If it's too much, I'd rather wait for the new 7D Mark II.

I have the same problem as bettyn. BTW, Canon quoted me a minimum of $350 to fix my 7D. So the grip idea looks like a nice work around! Robert

Oct 14, 2014 18:22 | #5 If you want to go the Grip way I'd say check the local camera club and see if anyone has one you can try - otherwise get one from a local shop so that you can try before you buy. No point getting a grip if its not going to fix the problem; cause then you've still got the repair bill ontop of the grip purchase. Note that also the grip in itself won't be transferable from 7D to 7DMII (least ways that's always been the case before). Tools of the trade: Canon 400D, Canon 7D, Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS L M2, Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 OS, Canon MPE 65mm f2.8 macro, Sigma 150mm f2.8 macro, Tamron 24-70mm f2.4, Sigma 70mm f2.8 macro, Sigma 8-16mm f4.5-5.6, Raynox DCR 250, loads of teleconverters and a flashy thingy too

I would like to get the MII someday once all the reviews are out and have the 7Dc be my backup or second camera with a different lens. Robert

BTW, you recommended me getting a 17-55 lens a few years back for the 7D. What a great pairing that turned out to be thanks! If you would buy on for $350, why not have yours repaired? Its the same transaction.

As I had previously stated, On the site (http://www.advancecamera.com I would think that putting $250 into a 7D for a CLA with a 1-year warranty is a worthwhile investment!

TeamSpeed 01010100 01010011 More info | Oct 15, 2014 10:51 | #13 It would be a 1 year warranty on just that one issue. If some other issue arises, like a sensor issue, that would not be covered. Yes $250 is better than $350, but if I were going to upgrade anyways, it would be a very difficult decision to repair it. I would just sell it and put the repair bill estimate as an allowance toward the purchase. Past Equipment | My Personal Gallery

That would have to be something to be clarified by the OP. The actual statement from their warranty reads We guarantee the service on all our repairs for 1-year, just like a new camera. It's the part "just like a new camera" that comes into play. Does that imply the same warranty conditions as a new 7D had? Some people would say yes, especially on a full teardown and CLA. They have done work for me so I can attest to the workmanship but knock wood never had to return a camera. There warranty is just like a manufactures warranty on a new camera, assuming sand, water, or impact are not involved, they stand behind our work. But again, always best to ask up front and iron out expectations.

I dropped my 7D off at Canon Canada and it cost me $250 for the diagnosis up front. 10 days later they called to say it was fixed and there would be no additional charge. They replaced the board that runs the top lcd display as well as the cover that goes around it. No rhyme or reason to why the camera broke, but at least it was repairable.
