That is the typical Canon banding once you pull a greatly underexposed image up. Nothing surprising about it.

Why would someone push an under-exposed image 5 stops in the first place? Turn up the ISO on the 5D3 to get a decent exposure, and then compare your results...

It's been argued before, coincidentally most Nikon users say it's good to have that ability while most Canon users disagree

It's surprising to me... even when pushed ridiculous amounts I've never had a file from my 6D look anything like that.

I completely agree. I know people say it's useful for pulling shadows, but I guess I like contrast more than most Nikon users...

The 6D is one of the first ones to improve this. All prior bodies, some much worse than others at different stops, would band once you took your exposure slider up during raw conversion.

certainly a nice result, but not something I'd have ever used in 40+ years of taking photos, certainly not a reason to switch out all my nice glass. I can't imagine any situation where I'd ever need to do such extreme recovery.
Would it be nice to have? Sure, for that one photo I've yet to take where it's necessary, but it's really a non issue either way for me.

40D, 5D3, a bunch of lenses and other things

When you get a great image but your flash didn't fire because it didn't recycle fast enough is when that 5 stop push ability can really help. No you didn't plan on it, but you didn't want to miss the moment that was the real winner of your series. I've had this happen, so I know situations where being able to push exposure is helpful (not to mention being able to do in one shot what Canon needs HDR to do). But it is what it is. Maybe the 7dii will close the gap.

It doesn't mean you can't function with Canon, it is just nice to see what the people on the other side of the fence can do. I'm not a brand snob so I don't take it personally, I appreciate it all :)

It's happened at a wedding before to me where the flash didn't recycle in time. Same with shooting kids, their expressions and poses can change at such a rapid pace that when using flash sometimes the shot you really like is underexposed.

Now it's not always a lost shot, in fact very few shots are not unsalvageable due to the sony sensors. Sure there are things I still like about Canon, but for what I like to shoot Nikon/Sony is the answer.

lol, and this is why this topic just keeps getting rehashed again and again. Reminds of Apple and iphone users saying 4in phones are the perfect size. Coincidentally that was the only size available:rolleyes: Of course its a different tune now.

if the tech is available i would rather have it than not. Its not like Canon is giving anybody a price break because they like using old sensor technology.
