So having recently moved to my Canon EOS 1D Mark III i have realised i need a wireless flash trigger. I want to have my Speedlight 430EXII in an umbrella off camera and don't want to use sync leads. Can anyone make any recomendations for this? Do i need 2 'things' one for the flash and one for the camera or can i just pop one on top of the camera and use the flash to recieve the signal?

If you want to keep ettl:
https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1386562

For only basic remote with manual control, you can use the Yongnuo RF 603 that is a cheap and reliable system.

The use of a radio transmitter on the camera and a receiver on the flash make it much more versatile that using the light remote system. For that later option, you just need to buy an additional canon compatible flash that can work as a master. But again, you are getting very limited by line of sight.

If i just wish to use one flash (off camera) do i need 2 of these trigger things or just one? Is there anything that will communicate with the 430exII without and adapter on it? As i understand the 1d doesn't have a built in wireless trigger. I have to say the yn622c has lots of features but doesn't look very flattering ontop of the camera

For radio triggers you need two. They are transceivers so each csn work as transmitter or receiver.

The Cactus V6 will allow you to change power remotely on Flashes that have TTL capability.

It would be handy to have the facility to change settings from the camera end as it means i don't have to keep opening the softbox! :-) i think i'll see what money is left over after payday! :-) apso on a tangent.... Softbox, shoot through umbrella or reflective umbrells for automotive night photography?

But will the yn622c work with other manuf. or only yongnuo's. The cactus works with Canon, Nikon, Metz, Godox, yongnuo, etc...

So does this mean i need one controller on the camera and nothing on the speedlight or one on each still? I think it will come down to design and price! Lol

Neither your camera nor your flash have radio capability, so yes you will need one unit for each, regardless of brand.

Your Yongnou YN-560 II doesnt have a built in radio, so yes you would need a controller for it, but the YN-560 III does have a radio so it wouldnt need one..

It may not be, but I cant find a list anywhere outside of some of the canon flashes & "Some 3rd party brands". It doesn't even show a list on the manual..;)
