I searched around but couldn't find anything about this.

I was interested in selling a 15-85mm to keh.com. I don't have any sort of seller feedback so I figured I wouldn't have much luck on the forums. Has anyone sold gear to keh before? What kind of price did you get compared to the market.

I'm curious because my copy has quite a bit of lens creep (24-70mm) and I'm wondering how much they'll take off for that.

Thanks for any input.

I've sold some lenses and bodies to them, and they're just fine to deal with. You're not going to get the same price you would selling it to another person, but the process is easy and fairly fast (and costs you nothing as they pay shipping).

When you price something to sell to them, you have to select the condition it's in. As long as they agree on the condition, you'll know what they'll give before you even send it. It's a great way to unload gear quickly vs sitting on things and piecemealing them out.

They have to buy it cheap enough to mark it up and stll sell at market prices. So dont expect anything near forum prices

I have had very good luck selling gear on eBay and offer to ship internationally at a higher cost.
I have shipped many lenses to different countries with no issues at all.
Sometimes at a higher net price even with their fees.

why wouldnt you have luck on forums..Just cause you havnt done any transactions yet doesnt mean you cant sell it. Everyone had to start some where to get feedback. If you have good communication and dont use paypal gift I dont think you would have any problems selling on the forum.

I would agree on using the forums. Price it right, maybe slightly low for your first sale here, use reg. PP only, provide pictures with your name and date in them with the lens and someone will grab it. Everyone started with no feedback. I would think you could get more here than KEH.

My first try is CL, where I usually have good luck selling things. If that doesn't work, I take them to my local shop and put them on consignment. They put it in the case for average used retail, and take a 25% commission. I get to set the low price, but I always yield more than selling on E-bay. I (almost) got burned on E-bay once. Never again. It is a seller's nightmare if someone is trying to scam you.

Just saw post #4. Wow, we have exactly opposite experiences with E-bay.

yea Ebay is the last last last resort. I hate ebay and dealing with trying to sell on there what you lose from what they take and everything else.

As a general rule, I think e-bay is just expensive. My real problem came when someone bought an item from me, then complained that I sent them a broken piece of crap. I had pre-packaging photos that included the serial number, or they would have gotten away with it. Never again.

Wow. I accurately describe my items and take photos.
I state that there are no returns, refunds, etc.
I have nothing but good experiences.
I understand the fees involved and accept them as part of the convenience of reach a global market.
I am not a 'huge fan' of Ebay, but I have no complaint either.

I have sold a couple of lenses and a 7D camera body to keh with absolutely no problems. I stated the condition of equipment on their online calculator. That was the price they gave me.This was higher than the calculators of B&H, Adorama, or Amazon. They supply a prepaid mailing label, you package the stuff, and, if you have been reasonable about the condition, they promptly send you a check. I estimated what I might have gotten on ebay, minus their fees and minus paypal fees and minus shipping. It wasn't very much more. Perhaps a forum would certainly be more profitable, but I didn't want the hassle of that process.

I wouldn't hesitate to sell to keh again. And I think I would buy used from them too.

keh will give you a quote online pretty quickly...for the 15-85IS with caps, in excellent condition they'd give you $295...in my opinion, it's just not worth it to sell to shops, unless you just can't be bothered to take the time to ship/post the ad...

as long as you accept regular paypal, i don't think many would have a problem buying from a new seller...especially one that at least is established as a forum member

I have sold a few lenses at KEH, and the transactions always went very well. The only time they did not agree with the condition of the lens I submitted and honor the set price, they actually offered me more than the original estimate!

Since there are no PayPal fees (they send you a check), and KEH pays for shipping, their price can sometimes be quite close to what you will net by selling here or on ebay -- it just depends on the item. It is about as close to a "no hassle" sale as you can find, which is also worth something... at least to me.
