I'd also go with a 24-70/2.8L II or get the Tamron 24-70 2.8VC.

I really liked the Tamron, but, ended up with the 24-70/2.8L II because I could afford it at the time and because the Canon was slightly better optically and focuses slightly faster.

Otherwise, I'd get a 24-105L and use it stopped down (i.e., with flash).

When working with primes, I love to have two bodies so I can have both 35L and 85L at the ready. Otherwise a 24-70 with a flash is usually good enough.

Why making it so difficult, there's only one option : Tamron 24-70 2.8 VC (I had it but I switched to the 35 1.4 Art as i'm a prime lover)

or the 24-105/4, original 24-70/2.8, 24-70/4IS, or 24-70/2.8v2, sigma 24-105, and....

..and the only 24-70 with VC

Or the canon 24-70/4IS, and then of course if you want more range there are the 24-105's from canon and sigma

great lens, don't underestimate it or listen to rumours about AF or quality talk...

Were you shooting with 2 bodies? I have found that shooting primes with one body and having to switch often can be tough, but if I have 2 bodies, I enjoy it. Are you using the SL1 as a second body for these events? If not, consider adding a 5Dc to your rig. You can get one for like $500.

So I'm guessing you don't have a second body? Then yes, primes will be kind of troublesome on the move. When I hear event or wedding I think 24-70mm f/2.8. That's what I would pick. Pick your brand.

I would use two bodies if you want to shoot prime. First body prime second use your 135l
