I know BB sucks, but I want/need a new computer and I have room on the CC so I am not 100% out of pocket right now.

Currently I only do photo editing, I plan to pick up a gopro soon so will be doing video editing as well (will be family trips only so I would rather have more still editing power if I gotta pick one) Using LR5 and PS (I believe 6).

If you must go to best buy then I would choose the second Desktop. As much as I use to love AMD back in the day Intel wins in the instructions per clock and is the clear winner.

#3, but you'll likely want to add an SSD (like this range (external link) or the slightly older but still excellent Samsung 840) and a larger hard drive (WD Black/Blue recommended).

Stay away from those laptops as they have the Dual core i7. Video editing and dual core will not be fun. The Desktop with the i5 is the best value as it has 4 real processing cores plus a video card that will be able to accelerate video processing via CUDA.

I have room on the CC

I'd pay off all my CC balance.

Ok so after a quick trip into BB and a talk with my wife we have agreed that I need to look other places. So this morning while poking around I found these 3 laptops (she requested I get a laptop for traveling and being able to teather in the studio easier and quicker).

Lenovo

Thoughts, with my limited knowledge the Lenovo looks like the best bet but wanted to make sure I am not missing something

Lenovo looks best to me, but they're all very similar. If you can afford to take the disk out and put in a decent SSD then any will be fine. Lenovo tend to be good quality, built like tanks the ones I've seen.

Ok so I went to Lenovo's site and came out looking at this one

With the 512GB SSD I have a couple large external drives I could use for storage.

$1000 for an i7 laptop, 14" screen, 512GB SSD seems like great value to me.

The only limitation I see on this laptop is the video output jacks. If you are using the computer for photo processing, eventually you will want to add an external monitor that is specifically geared toward photo editing. This computer has an HTML output. That will limit you to 1920-1080p resolution. Basically if you add a 24 inch monitor, you should be good. If you decide you want a 27 or 30 inch monitor, you will most likely not be able to use them at their full resolution.

Not really a problem. I use a 24 inch monitor at that resolution and have no plans to use a larger monitor, but if you do decide you want one of these larger monitors in a year or two, just take that into consideration.

I was sitting here looking at monitors and converters, as neither of my current monitors have HDMI ports only VGA. I also currently use a 19" screen and am thinking of maybe grabbing a new screen. So before I pull the trigger on the computer I plan to figure out my monitor issue.

I think you mean HDMI. You can do 4K over HDMI when you're talking about TVs, unsure with computers.

Yes, HDMI. The 4k support is with Version 2.0. This version is quite new and very few devices support it yet. The stats for the computer stated only HDMI, not HDMI Version 2. If it had V2, you better believe they would be stress that, so it would be best to assume it only has the standard version.

Well I pulled the trigger on the Lenovo this morning along with a 27" IPS screen. I get to pick up the screen today but the laptop is a little ways out :(

Cant wait to get it up and going.
