I've shot a lot of Rugby in poor lighting but normally using my 7d, when I turned up to the stadium to shoot this even I was immediately approached by the team captain apologizing for the poor lighting, after about 5 minutes I realized that the 7d and 70-200f2.8 weren't going to cut it with max usable iso of about 3200, I switched over to my 6d and cranked the iso up over 20000 and am rather happy with the results, the only good shots taken with my 7d needed a flash thats for sure.

C&C welcomed

Roller derby is one of the toughest sports I have photographed so far. Some of the caves they play in are so dark I have trouble grabbing focus at time. Looks like the 6D really handled the low light well. I generally use two or three strobes to light up the track.

I agree. The game I shot in in Melbourne the lighting was terrible.
OP, you're turned out well.
