Whats everyones favorite Con camera set up?

It depends on where I'm shooting. If I'm shooting the Denver Comic con (which is held at the convention center), I have enough room to move around with my 7D to use my 24-70. If I'm at Nan Desu Kan (which is at a hotel), it's very hard to move around, so I'd like to pick up a 5D for that use.

Depends on the context.

For walkabout shots at a con, some sort of wide-to-medium zoom with a wide aperture. I've had good results with my 60D with Sigma 17-70 lens, and also good results with my 5D3 and Canon 24-70L (v1). I generally don't like to shoot people with any sort of wide angle, but in a crowded convention space, you don't have room to use a longer focal length.

A full-frame sensor will let you get more stuff in the frame, but if you're 4 feet away from a person shooting a full-length shot at 24mm, you're gonna get some significant perspective distortion.

For doing "real" shoots, I almost always fall back to my 70-200.


As far as lighting:
I built a Steampunk-styled wearable light kit, with vertical rods to hold two Speedlights above my shoulders. Works well, but is very heavy, and could really benefit from ETTL (it's just my YN560's right now). I haven't used it in a few years because it simply wears me out.

Lens is a Canon 18-55mm IS, dollar-per-dollar as good as you'll find. Camera body was an old Canon T1i.

Lighting depends on the venue. At one recent indoor event with ceilings around ten feet high I employed a single light source,an old Canon 420EX aimed at the ceiling, and used bounced light as the primary source, assisted with a small bounce card for fill.

Thanks for the ideas.Have both a full frame and cropped and plan on trying both a Wonder con in a few weeks. Now after previewing Long Beach's event images some fill flash is in order. Gary Fong on camera or maybe the "Terry Richardson" style bracket? Most of my shooting will be done in large open areas or outside. Suggestions?

How did the ring flash and moon unit do in the crowds? Did you use a light stand when possible?

Awesome! I isntantly knew who this was lol Bought the game via PSN 3 years ago, couldn't beat it with my older brother. Didn't play it until a couple months ago with my 6 year old daughter and we beat it twice in one week.
