I started out small with Sigma 150-500 type lenses, then when I had more money sold that lens and bought a used 500 f4 v1. For my other stuff I put it on credit card for rewards but pay it off that month. Just sold a car to buy a 1dx, do what you gotta do but don't get into revolving debt if you think it's going to take more than a few months to pay it off...just a bad habit to get into. Did that with car parts when I was younger and took a while to get out of.

It is just down to priorities.
I was on an embarrassingly low income yet I paid off my Mortgage 8 years early, currently drive a fairly large car (by UK standards) that I bought new, use a 1DX with 5 L lenses from 17 to 800mm + a couple of non Ls and a selection of Gitzo tripods to put them on.
True everything was bought at knock down prices (especially the Canon 800mm) but if you budget carefully you can have pretty much what you want.
Incidentally I was made redundant 2 years ago so my income is now VERY small - time for a second camera!

P.S. forgot to mention I smoke and drink as well.

Life is for living, cameras are to capture it (one day I will learn how!).
