That is very scary, Sibil. I'm so glad it ended well!
Thank you.

Sibil - can you tell if it is the same bear? If they're getting that aggressive it might be time to call animal control and have the bear relocated.
I have no doubt that we have repeat visitors, but I have captured enough pictures and studied them in detail, to know that we get far more than one. Animal control won’t come out unless the bear is sighted in a more populated area. We are too close to the hills, so by the time anyone shows up, the bears have disappeared into the hills. The situation is not too uncommon. Below is a bit of news from the same evening.

Agree with Tim. Sibil, those bears are getting too close. I'm surprised that ordinary nonsecure trash containers are allowed where you live.
According to one ranger, our only solution is to get a bear-proof container. I am thinking that I need to build some kind of a strong shack, to keep our trash cans looked up. But, they’ll still come for the neighbors’ trash cans.
Thanks. I should keep my stupidity in check and not try to get a picture every time.

I know that feeling. One time when I was camping while sleeping in our tent we get woken up by some noise just outside. I unzip the tent door to go have a look and there's a bear standing there just past arms reach.
The adrenaline rush was something else.
