Wanting to know how these two cameras stack up against each other for the following areas and is the 1Dx additional cost worth the investment if you're a versatile shooter.

* Image quality
* Video quality
* ISO / Image noise in low light conditions
* AF System and AF Speed

Thanks!

1. Pretty close
2. Also, pretty close
3. Close in the lower ISOs, then the 1Dx separates itself
4. IMO, not even close. While the 5D3 is pretty snappy, I don't find it to be anywhere near as fast in speed or accuracy. The 1Dx drives lenses, while the 5D3 negotiates and gets where it gets. I also believe the 1Dx is slightly better in lower light. Yes, they use the same system, but it is not the same system.

So, depends on what you shoot. Wildlife, sports - 1Dx. Portraits - 5D3.

This is MY OPINION having used both cameras in a multitude of scenarios. Both excel, just in different areas. I've considered selling my 1Dx and moving to the 5D3 for a lighter weight body paired with my 1D4, but just can't do it. For what I shoot, I'd lose too many features that I like having.

#3: From all the raws I have seen, the 1DX is about 1/2 stop better than the 5D3, and the 6D sits right in the middle of that gap.

#4: I find that the 5D3 is very, very close to the 1D4. Target acquisition with a Canon USM L lens is very fast, and I can simply sit on the sidelines, and when the action hits, I just raise the camera, and shoot. The AF settings and tweaking of the parameters is mandatory however, some combinations will not work as snappily as others. It took me 3 games or so to get my 5D3 dialed in.

I shot almost the entire last NBA D-League season (external link) with the 5D3 where in the past I used the 1D4. Most of the mistakes seen there were me and not the camera, and out of all those pictures, there are probably 10-15 that I would consider large marketing material ready, so no critiques needed, I know what I need to work on here in less than a month when the season restarts. :)
