Currently at work I have at my disposal an Olympus VG-160. I want to replace it with a Canon. We use the camera for taking exterior and interior images of properties.

The camera must have the ability to show the current date on the image like the Olympus does. It would be helpful if the camera would charge the battery while downloading images via USB to my PC (the Olympus cannot do that). Budget is $400.00 or lower. Would a G series be a better fit? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Consider an S110, and buy a spare battery. USB charging is not fast enough if you need juice right away. I always buy a spare battery with my cameras. There are plenty of third party sources that do not cost as much as the Canon brand, and work as well or better.

Uh, I didn't think any Canon camera offered USB charging.

None of mine do, but I didn't bother to check any recent models, since I don't like USB charging for a camera battery.

I don't think any Canon cameras offer USB charging as a design feature. The best you could hope for would be to kludge up a USB power supply using the dummy batteries of an AC adapter kit, and that wouldn't recharge anything, just let you work at a desk (downloading, etc.) while the battery recharges externally. I'd just get 2 batteries. My spare NB-5L (fits my SD-990, SX-230 and S-110) and a spare SD card in plastic case fit into a neoprene holder SanDisk once supplied for carrying 2x CF cards. Takes up less space than my keys or Swiss Army knife, which also live in the same trousers pocket.

For $249 you can purchase the Canon S110 on Amazon. The camera comes as a "bundle" which includes an extra battery. This camera will not charge via USB but certainly simple enough to change batteries when one goes deal. Along with a ton of other features the camera does have the option to capture pictures with the date on the print as well as obtaining GPS info from your cell phone.
