As the 7D Mark II is backwards compatible with LP-E6 battery, that also tells all the contact and size of the chamber should be the same.
This brings a question if the 7D Grip can fit on 7D2??

No technical difference and/or any warning is mentioned. I have a feeling that the 7D grip "may be" usable. But anyways.. As I read it it has more to do with the build of the grip matching that of the body. You maybe right on usability. I will try to remember to see if my aftermarket 7D grip works on the 7D2 when it arrives. I have already ordered the new grip and a second battery for the 7D2.

It seems like they would but there is a different tab hole on the bottom of the battery slot that won't let the grips drop all the way into the battery slot. More accurately, the tab hole on the bottom is in a different spot on the 7D2. I don't know if the tab HAS to drop into that hole but I was unwilling to trim it to see. Just gonna wait for another Meike availability... EOS 7D2, EOS 1DMkIII (work equip.)/85mm 1.8, 300 2.8L, 16-35 2.8L, 24-70 2.8L, 24-105L, 70-200 2.8 L, Canon 1.4x, Canon G15, www.brad21photo.com

The P/N for the 7DII grip is BG-E16 and for the the 7D the P/N is BG-E7...price also differs considerably.

I don't want to spend the money for the Canon grip but basketball season is coming and I'm gonna need that grip (and extra battery) to shoot portrait comfortably!!
