A few months back I did a shoot for a buddy, he's a k9 handler with our local sheriff's office (my previous employer as well). He recently competed in a k9 competition and the sheriff's office Facebook page decided to post an article. To go with their article they took a screen shot of one of my images and posted it along with it. If they would have asked I probably wouldn't have had a problem with it. And sent them a higher resolution version, rather than have a poor screen shot from a iPhone version.
Tonight I am browsing our local newspapers website and come across the same image with an associated article. But this time they put their stamp on the corner of the image with their "all rights reserved" disclosure at the end.
I'm trying to decide if I am biting off more than I'm wanting to bargain for, of if I have some legitimate problems. How's the standing on this. I've read I should just invoice the paper? At the time of the shoot I hadn't started up my "business" yet, so I don't know how that would pan out for me. Or do I just have them remove the image? Or to I just jump ahead of the game and contact a lawyer.
Thanks
